The 75th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Arts and Moves Science (AMPAS) took place on March 23, 2003, at Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles starting at 5:30 am. PST/8: 30: 00 EST. During the ceremony, AMPAS presented the Academy Awards (usually called Oscars) in 24 categories to honor the film released in 2002. The ceremony, aired in the United States by ABC, was produced by Gil Cates and directed by Louis J. Horvitz. Actor Steve Martin hosted for the second time, having previously led the 73rd ceremony held in 2001. In November 2002, the Academy hired Oscar veteran television producer Gil Cates to oversee the eleventh broadcast. "With ten performances under his belt, no other live producer is even close to the depths of his experience," said AMPAS president Frank Pierson in a press release announcing the election. "Gil practically found the awards show as a genre of style, and we have the honor of giving him a very special occasion to celebrate his 75th anniversary." A few days later, actor and comedian Steve Martin were chosen to bring the upcoming broadcast. Cates explained the reason for bringing back the veteran comedian saying, "A clever host, smart, sharp, intelligent, fast-paced and always on top of the action goes on, Wait, I have forgotten something Oh yes, and too angry, funny." According to an article published in Los Angeles Times, Cates approached actor and veteran Oscar host Billy Crystal for emigration tasks. However, as time went by and Crystal was still hesitant about the job, Cates offered Martin a hosting role. The event received a positive reception from most of the media publications.
