The Born Free Foundation is an international animal rights conservation organization based in the United Kingdom focusing on wild animals. It originated in 1984 as a "Garden Inspection Camp" by actor Virginia McKenna and her husband Bill Travers along with their son Will Travers and four colleagues.

Creation
McKenna and Travers have been heavily influenced by wild animals after starring together in the 1966 Born Free movie telling the story of George and Joy Adamson as they returned Elsa the Lioness to the wilds of Africa. They appear in several films about animals and produce wildlife and anti-zoo documentary films for television.
The Born Free Foundation Limited was officially established on July 20, 1998, and as an umbrella organization consisting of the Garden Collection Campaign, the Elegant Campaign, the Wolf Campaign, the Dolphin Campaign, the Primate Campaign, the Big Cat Campaign, and the Bear Campaign. This is a registered charity in the UK & amp; Wales.
The Born Free Foundation conducts animal welfare, conservation and public awareness campaigns to prevent animal torture and to preserve wildlife in its natural habitat. The logo is a lion, which according to its website resembles Elsa.
The Foundation, which is part of the International Tiger Coalition (ITC), has two large cat sanctuaries in South Africa at the Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.
