Christmas Kids is a 2004 American Christian film directed by William Ewing starring Steven Curtis Chapman. The film is based on "The Christmas Cross", a short story by Max Lucado that was repackaged in 2003 as The Christmas Child: A Story of Coming Home, and is the story of a Chicago journalist who finds herself in Clearwater, Texas around Christmas time to discover his past.

Plot
Nine months after the death of his adoptive father, Jack Davenport, a Chicago journalist, obtained some of his possessions that led Jack to discover his past. Jack accepts the task of making a story in Dallas, Texas. Jack left a few days before Christmas Eve and decided to stay in Clearwater, Texas, where he was born. One of the treasures left by his adoptive father was a mysterious picture of Clearwater's oldest churches, taken in 1963. This church has a wood-size living place, carved out by Joe Ottoman during the 1950s. He met several townspeople throughout his search, such as Michael Curtis (a church pastor who had adopted a little girl from China, as Steven Curtis Chapman did in real life); Naomi Williams, author of the Clearwater newspaper; Vanessa, County Courthouse employee; Jimmy James, the Clearwater sheriff; judge; and care workers in the church. Jack was told by the judge that releasing the adopted parental identity could cause suffering, as he indicated that one adopted girl had died three years earlier. Jack goes on to examine the story of Joe Ottoman, who had a car accident in 1945 that killed his wife, but his daughter survived. Joe worked for ten years on Nativity engraving. In 1963, Joe made the same mistake and had another car accident. His daughter, Carmen Ana Ottoman, gave birth to a son on 24 December 1963, but Carmen died two days later. Joe arranged his grandson for adoption, then he disappeared from the pressure and nobody knew if he was alive or not. Naomi, who helped Jack gather information from previous newspapers, tried to get Jack's birth note with the help of his friend, Vanessa, who worked there, but they were lost. When Jack learns of this, he finds that the judge tries to hide it from him. The judge later revealed that Carmen Ottoman was his mother. On her 40th birthday, Jack is still shocked by this. He slept on a bench near the church, in front of Jesus' birthplace. When the maintenance worker found him there, he took him into the church for a cup of coffee. The maintenance worker then reveals himself as Joe Ottoman, Jack's grandfather. That night, Jack Megan's wife arrived in Texas, and Jack told her everything that had happened to him. Megan reveals that they will become parents. On Christmas Eve, residents of Clearwater town gathered around the birthplace as the priest spoke about it. After this, Jack tells his grandfather that he's going to be a great-grandfather.
