Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ( LGBT ) people in the US in Oregon have the same rights and responsibilities as heterosexuals. Sexual sexual activity is legal in Oregon. Same-sex marriages have been valid in the state since May 2014, when a federal judge proclaimed a state constitutional ban on such marriages unconstitutional. Previously, same-sex couples could only access domestic partnerships, which guaranteed most marriage rights. In addition, same-sex couples are allowed to be adopted together. Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing and public accommodation is prohibited in states under the Oregon Equality Act, enacted in 2008. Conversion therapy in minors is also illegal.

Oregon is often referred to as one of the most LGBT friendly countries in the United States, and is home to an active LGBT community. Governor Kate Brown is the nationally open LGBT Governor. Most Oregon people favor same-sex marriage.

Recognition of same-sex relations

Same-sex marriage was legalized in Oregon on May 19, 2014 after US District Court Judge Michael McShane ruled that a 2004 state constitutional amendment prohibiting such marriages was unconstitutional in relation to the Federal Constitutional Equity Protection Act.

Prior to that came to power, same-sex marriage was prohibited by the State Constitution due to the issuance of ballot papers on November 2, 2004. Supporters have formed a campaign to place same-sex marriage initiatives on vote in November 2014, but the plan was canceled due to legal marriages in power in May 2014 for same-sex couples in the state.

Domestic partnerships for same-sex couples have been available since February 4, 2008, when the Oregon Family Fairness Act came into effect.

Oregon has benefited fellow country employees since 1998.

Since October 16, 2013, based on the opinion of the Oregon Department of Justice, Oregon has recognized same-sex marriage from other jurisdictions.

In July 2015, the Oregon Legislature was passed and the Oregon Governor signed a law to codify a gender-neutral marriage under various Oregon laws, effective on January 1, 2016.

Gender identity and expression

In January 2013, as part of an off-court settlement in a discrimination lawsuit with a public employee related to the medical insurance coverage of a sex surgery procedure, the country agrees to provide full medical insurance coverage for all such operations, medications, and related treatments for individuals covered by the public health plan of employees.

In May 2017, a law authorized the Oregon Legislature (in both the House and the signatures of the Governor) to abolish and repeal the 1991 requirement for transgender people to publish their names in newspapers before they undergo changes to the sex law on government documents. This requirement is seen as a breach of privacy and security risks for transgender people.
