Ringkasan plot

Jacko Argyle died in prison while serving his sentence for the murder of his adoptive mother, Rachel Argyle. His own widow, Maureen, believes he is responsible. Two years later, Jacko's alibi suddenly appeared and the family had to reconcile not only with the fact that Jacko was actually innocent, but one of them was a real killer, and now suspicion fell on each of them.

The witness, Arthur Calgary, was unaware of the trial and thus failed to advance. He believes the Argyle family will be grateful when he cleansed the name of their son but fails to realize the full implications of the information he provides. However, once he did, he was determined to protect the innocent by finding the killer.

Calgary visits a retired local doctor, Dr. MacMaster, to ask him about Jacko. MacMaster notes that he was surprised when Jacko was punished for killing Rachel, not because the murder was beyond Jacko's 'moral outreach', but because he thought Jacko would be too cowardly to kill someone; that, if he wanted to kill someone, he would hire an accomplice. While two outsiders are trying to find the killer, the insider is Philip Durrant whose efforts reveal the truth and force the killer to kill again. Durrant was found killed.

It was revealed that the killer was indeed acting under the influence of Jacko Argyle. The carefully planned Alibi Jack failed when the police could not find Calgary.

The murderer was revealed to be Kirsten Lindstrom, the middle-aged Argyles housekeeper. Jacko has convinced Kirsten that he loves him, and persuades him to kill his adoptive mother under the protection of a "very easy" alibi to steal much-needed money. But once Kirsten learns that Jacko is secretly married, he decides not to take refuge for Jacko, leaving him to his fate.

Meaning and acceptance of Literature

Philip John Stead summed up his review in the Times Literary Supplement on December 12, 1958, with, "The Solution of the Destruction Trial is certainly not below the level of ingenuity of Mrs. Mrs. Christerie, but the book does not have other qualities that are expected by the readers. What has been the persistence, the refreshing spirit with the game of detection played in so many of its tales? Temptation by Nothing slipped out of that cheerful arena into something too similar to psychological fiction, too much conversation and too many people talking - people who find it difficult to take the necessary amount of interest because there is not enough space to build it.The type of work that has been devoted to this story is not the kind of writer superior and the reader feels that Miss Marple and Poirot will completely disapprove of the entire business. "

Sarah Russell of The Guardian gave a brief review of this novel in the December 9, 1958 edition when he said, "In solving the sympathy of this two-year-old family murderer, incredible with Miss Christie, aroused too many people to leave quite a suspect, but the ones uncovered are the sound and the story is well told. "

Maurice Richardson of The Observer November 2, 1958 says, "Veteran Norn has nodded about this, of course there is ingenuity, but has no central focus, his character is unstable and very little dialogue is very easy to read and almost crunchy it's like burned sugar. "He concludes," A serious socio-psychological approach does not fit the AC Somehow, in the end with a big surprise you feel home and dry. "

Robert Barnard: "One of the best of the Christies' fifties, and one of his own favorites (even though he named different titles at different times.) Patterns of Five Little Murders , murdered prisoners in prison , not guilty. [sic] Brief in detection, but solid enough in social observation Understanding in the treatment of adopted children, but not entirely wise on the question of color: 'Tina is always a black horse... Maybe half of her is not white.

Movies

Temptation by Innocence (1985)

The film adaptation was made in 1985, starring Donald Sutherland, Faye Dunaway, Christopher Plummer and Sarah Miles. His music score (by Dave Brubeck) is heavily criticized for being completely unsuited to this mystery style.

Brubeck has taken over from Pino Donaggio, which has drawn a lot of parts to the project, but was too busy to work on the project when the various edits films requires a reassessment. Original score has a string swirling, melodic tone is abundant and full of tension - probably more suited to movie Christie.

Television

Agatha Christie's Marple (2007)

The novel was adapted for the third series of the television series ITV Marple featuring Geraldine McEwan first broadcast in 2007 although Miss Marple is not in the original novel. This version is very changed from the novel. Jacko is executed by hanging, rather than dying in prison for natural causes.

Gwenda Vaughan takes Philip Durrant's place as a member of the household who decides to investigate and get too close to the truth, and then killed (stabbed at the base of the brain) by the murderer, Kirsten. Eliminated altogether is Kirsten's attempt to silence Tina and Michael by stabbing Tina. There are also additional other adopted children, Bobby, Jacko's twin brother; Bobby committed suicide after financial ruin. Kirsten proved to be arrested in the end, unlike in his original novel where his capture was not explicitly included in the actual text.
