The first season of The Secret Life of American Teenager , the American television series created by Brenda Hampton, debuted on the ABC Family television network on July 1, 2008. The first of the Season comprised from 23 episodes, the first 11 episodes that ended on September 9, 2008. Despite marketing issues, the remaining twelve ended as part of the first season, which completed its premiere on March 23, 2009. The season focuses on the relationship between family and friends dealing with the unexpected teen pregnancy of the character Amy Juergens, described by Shailene Woodley. Perhaps the last girl anyone would expect to suffer from such scandalous events, Amy's world began to flourish when she discovered that almost every student in her high school deals with some secret or unexpected issues, ranging from Grace's fine grandmother to Ricky's hard child and a loving Ben.

Reception
The series received mixed acceptance when it started broadcasting. Many mainstream critics praised the messages presented in the series, although it was also criticized for its direction and writings. New York Post praised the series for having a series of "real" characters coming from families of all lines - from whole to single parent households to one boy in foster care. "The premiere episode broke the record for the highest-rated debut for the ABC Family, beating Kyle XY , with 2.82 million viewers. One finale season brought 4.50 million viewers, beating that night 90210 which is almost half the number of regular viewers.
