Histori

Bloom illustrates the amazing story behind filming: "The scenario for Any Day Now is inspired by a true story - not based on a true story.I wrote the original script 30 years ago I in NY introduced me to a man gay named Rudy, Rudy lives on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, at that time, Atlantic Ave is very rundown, has become gentrified ever since, Rudy lives in a small apartment and has little money He is friends with a 12-year-old boy who lives a few blocks away The boy had been abandoned by his rude mother and lived with his grandmother. The grandmother did not do much to provide the boy, who did nothing. "I think he's autistic, but there's no money to do anything. Rudy will take the boy to his apartment, make sure that he is dressed and fed properly, and he does what he can to get him to school. He practically raised it. That's where the reality ends and my writer's imagination takes over. After spending time with Rudy and the boy, I wonder what will happen if Rudy decides to adopt him. I did my research and talked to a number of people about the problems a gay man would adopt a boy. Remember, it was 1980. It was very different, even though our path is still long. A few months later I had a scenario. "

Despite having an interesting story, Bloom had to wait 32 years to actually see the movie made. He explains: "My son, PJ, is one of the top Music Supervisors in LA, as well as producer and publisher of recordings.Among other events, PJ is the Music Supervisor at Glee .Travis Fine, director Any Day Now , making another independent film 3 years ago called The Space Between Travis and PJ are friends in high school. When Travis needs help with music in his movie he calls PJ. Travis told PJ that he was looking for another movie to do, something small, with a heart, and about something important.PJ, who had known about my manuscript throughout his adult life, told Travis, the story, Travis liked it, and asked me to send him a movie script I did it, and he said he wanted to make it, with a warning that he can do some rewrites. We discussed it, and I agree.travis rewrite, raise money, hire the actors or, and make a movie, If you discount the first 30 years of trying to make a movie, the last couple has passed quickly. I love all that Travis does to his script, and he makes great movies. She transforms a boy who does not talk to boys with Down Syndrome, and plays a tremendous Down Syndrome actor to play a role. Travis made some other significant changes, but the heart and soul of my scenario remained as an anchor on the film. "

Plot

Rudy Donatello (Alan Cumming) is a struggling musician and a player at the gay nightclub in 1979 West Hollywood, where he meets with Paul Fleiger (Garret Dillahunt), a closed district prosecutor. Returning to his apartment, Rudy finds Marco (Isaac Leyva), a 14-year-old boy with Down syndrome, left alone after his mother, Marianna (Jamie Anne Allman), has been arrested. Rudy picks up the abandoned boy, but the Family Service intervenes and takes Marco to nurture. Rudy enlists Paul to help him get custody of Marco; and the two visited Marianna in prison to persuade her to sign a temporary guardianship, which she did. Everything is fine, as Rudy and Paul become Marco's guardians; but, when Rudy and Paul's relationship is questioned by the court system, the two men find themselves turning into a legal battle to become the permanent and legal guardian of a dazzling boy who shows them the real joy of what it means to be a parent. After their home (the Marco neighborhood) is evaluated, the man is placed before a judge (Frances Fisher) who decides what is best for the child. The reevaluation was positive, and it was decided that Rudy and Paul were great parents for Marco. However, just as the court will decide to support the men, Marco's mother is released from prison. He takes back custody of Marco, leaving Rudy and Paul without their son. Marco sounded saying when he was taken back to his mother's apartment, "this is not my house, this is not my house." As expected, Marianna returns to her old ways (using drugs, sleeping, etc.) and failing to care for Marco. One night when she had sex, Marianna told Marco to step out of the apartment. Marco started wandering the streets looking for Paul's house (his true home). However, Marco could not find the house and died outside, alone. The movie ends with a letter/monologue from Paul. The letter, which contains the news of Marco's death, was sent to everyone who doubted the couple as Marco's parents. The hope is that they realize the mistake they made that ended in the death of this boy.
