The flag of the US New Mexico state consists of a red sun symbol from Zia in the yellow field, and was officially introduced in 1925. It was designed in 1920, to highlight the native Americans of Pueblo and Nuevo MÃÆ' à © xico Hispano roots. The colors evoked the Habsburg flags of Spain (Cross Burgundy), Spain, and the Crown of Aragon, carried by conquerors.
This is one of four US state flags that do not contain blue (the other three are Alabama, California, and Maryland). The District of Columbia flag is also not blue.

Histori
The Daughters of American Revolution encouraged New Mexico to design a unique and contemporary flag in 1920. A contest for designing a new state flag was won by Harry Mera of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mera is an archaeologist familiar with the Zia Sun symbol found in Zia Pueblo in the 19th century pot. The symbol has a sacred meaning to Zia. Four is the sacred number that represents the Life Circle: four directions, four times a day, four stages of life, and four seasons. The loop binds the four elements of the four together. The winning design is the flag that the country currently uses. Speech, "I salute the flag of the State of New Mexico and the symbol of Zia's perfect friendship among a united culture", usually read in a New Mexico public school after a pledge of US allegiance.
During the first 14 years of the state, New Mexico has no official flag. During the 1915 San Diego World Expo, the exhibition featured an exhibition hall where all the country flags were on display. Since New Mexico has no official flag, an unofficial flag is shown, consisting of a blue field with a US flag in the upper left corner, the words "New Mexico" and "47" (because New Mexico is the 47th state) in writing silver in the middle of the flag, and the state seal in the lower right corner. Some historical references (including Cram's Unrivaled Atlas of the World) also show the words "The Sunshine State" wrapped around the seal in the bottom right corner.
Adoption
That flags and the like are adopted for use on all occasions when the state is officially and publicly represented, with the privileged use of all citizens at such times as they deem fit and appropriate. The flag is a symbol of the ancient red Zia sun in the middle of a yellow field. The color will be red and yellow from old Spain. The proportion of flags is two-thirds in width. The sun symbol should be one-third of the flag length. The word symbol must have four groups of rays arranged at right angles; each group should consist of four rays, the two rays in the group will be a fifth longer than the outer rays of the group. The diameter of the circle in the center of the symbol should be one-third of the width of the symbol. The flag must match the colors and design described herein.
