The USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter is an annual survey taken from television ads by USA Today in a live poll during a broadcast in the United States from Super Bowl, the annual professional American soccer championship game of the National Football League. The survey, which began in 1989, used direct responses on a scale of zero to ten (zero to the worst, ten best) from the focus group based in McLean, Virginia, the headquarters of the newspaper and one (or more) site (s) in the whole country.

The Super Bowl became a must-visit event for advertisers during the third quarter of the Super Bowl XVIII show on CBS, when Apple Computer debuted a one-off ad for their Macintosh computer titled 1984, directed by Ridley Scott. When the Los Angeles Raiders beat the Washington Redskins, 38-9, Apple's ads, not games, were the most talked about items around the water cooler the next day. Since then, large advertisers have been using the game, paying seven numbers (averaging over US $ 5 million for a 30 second slot in 2018), excluding production costs) to showcase their work and generate buzz that many people are listening to the biggest television show of the year just for watching ads, not just the real games. For that reason, USA Today started the Ad Meter, a poll that provides immediate response per second per ad. According to the newspaper, ads subject to the rules limited to those displayed during the game - from start to finish, excluding those shown on part-time or local ads - are officially eligible for consideration in the Ad Meter survey.
New elements are added for 2012, as Facebook users and those who log into the USA Today website are involved in the second survey that runs until February 7th at 6pm EST. Online elements added to the regular meter for 2013.
