DogTown is a National Geographic Channel series set up at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a 33,000 acre (130Ã, km 2 ) animal facility in southern Utah. This is a documentary-style program that describes staff and volunteers because they care about dogs who need a home. Many of the animals featured are either very abused or neglected or require special medical care. The goal is usually to secure every dog ​​in a foster home but if this is not possible, animals are treated in the sanctuary for the rest of their lives.
The first show aired on January 4, 2008, and continued for four seasons. The final episode aired on March 12, 2010. By participating in this series, this sanctuary aims to raise public awareness of animal welfare issues as well as funding for their life-saving jobs. Best Friends Animal Society has hailed the event by dramatically increasing the number of members, volunteers and visitors, and helping to secure the home for many dogs in the program.
On June 10, 2015, CW announced that it will add a revival of the series, titled Dog Town, USA, to the One Magnificent Morning Saturday block, starting July 4, 2015.

Each episode usually features three cases. Veterinarians Mike Dix and Patti Iampietro treat dogs that require medical care, while behavioral issues are handled by coach John Garcia, Pat Whitacre, Ann Allums, Michelle Besmehn and Sherry Woodard.
In addition to the four seasons released by National Geographic, Best Friends Animal Society released a DVD titled " DogTown Unleashed," providing updates on various dogs and behind the scenes looking at DogTown .

Michael Vick Dogs
In its second premiere, DogTown profiled the rehabilitation of four American pit bulls, a Terrier rescued from NFL player Michael Vick's property in April 2007. The placement of dogs with Best Friends is the subject of some controversy. After their removal from the dogfighting complex, PETA and the Humane Society of the United States advocated the dogs to be turned off; court decisions, however, allow 22 of the most abused dogs to be placed in the Best Friend for rehabilitation. Following their development, one of the dogs, Georgia, went on to make a media appearance with coach John Garcia, including at the The Ellen DeGeneres Show .
The two-hour episode featured Vick's well-rated dog, becoming the highest National Geographic Channel rankings Friday night and the second highest season's premiere rating, in network history.
