Adoption by LGBT people in Europe distinguishes legal recognition from one country to another. Full adoption or adoption of children or both are legal in 22 of 56 European countries, and in all dependent areas.
Full adoption shared by same-sex couples is legal in seventeen European countries, namely Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The other four, namely, Estonia, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland permit the adoption of step-children in which registered partners can adopt biological and, in some cases, adopted children of their partners. In Croatia, spouses can become partner-guardians over their partner's child, most of which is comparable to step adoption. In Greece, same-sex couples in civil partnerships can be fostered - but not adopted - parents.
In the dependent region, joint adoption by same-sex couples is legal in Saint Helena, Ascension Island, Tristan da Cunha, Gibraltar, Falkland Islands, Guernsey, Greenland, Faroe Islands, Isle of Man and Jersey. Some countries are currently considering allowing joint adoption or full children by same-sex couples.

San Marino : In March 2016, the United Left announced a proposal for a gender-neutral partnership bill with adoption rights. The junior coalition partners, the Socialist Party and the Democrats, declare their openness to same-sex parenting and can file their own bills with step-adoption rights.
Public opinion
According to a Gallup Europe poll, women, young people, and highly educated are more likely to support same-sex marriage and adoption rights for gay people than other demographics.
In the UK in 2007, 64% of people said they thought gay couples should be allowed to adopt and 32% said they should not do it. 55% of respondents think that male partners should be able to adopt and 59% of people think that lesbian couples should be able to adopt.
